Love Stories – A Six-Episode TV Series

Love_StoriesaMany romance novels have conflict in them. This can be due to misunderstandings, prejudice, distance or fear of intimacy. These obstacles enrich the storyline and help the characters grow.

These are the kind of stories readers rely on for their next romantic read. These stories include tropes such as friends to lovers or enemies to lovers. They also include forced proximity and fake dating.

Themes

This book explores the ways that current conceptions of love are expressed through diverse practices and discourses, from teenage girlsa (TM) blogs to bestsellers such as Fifty Shades of Grey. It shows that no matter what social group, language, or country you are from, Western ideals of romantic romance a persist.

Six stories of passion and romance are featured. Olga struggles with getting her crush to notice. Preston confesses to a smoldering Frenchman. Sierra seeks to romance her smitten colleague. Each story is told with a particular theme in mind, reinforced by specific symbols and motifs pulled directly from the setting. These motifs and symbolism can be used to highlight characters’ emotions, create mood and generate conflict. They also help readers to connect with the story and make it more memorable.

Characters

Love stories often require that the protagonist or loved one overcome obstacles to come together. These obstacles can be external, like a social class division, or internal, such as the loved one’s fears of intimacy or commitment. The conflict can be blackly comic, as in Woody Allen films such as Play it Again, Sam or Manhattan, or more serious, as in a clinging love like the skunk Pepe le Pew’s.

Usually the protagonist has some kind of best friend, sibling, or confidante who knows them well enough to be an endless source of support. This character should have a backstory, goals and quirks that make them seem real to the reader. They can also serve as a counterpoint to the protagonist, exposing their insecurity and providing a contrast to their desire for love or happiness.

The protagonist of Love Story is quick-witted working-class Radcliffe College student Jenny Cavilleri, portrayed by Ali MacGraw. Oliver Barrett IV, a Harvard law student, falls in love with Jenny Cavilleri despite the objections of his wealthy family. However, their relationship comes to an end tragically when Jenny is diagnosed as having terminal leukemia. The film was a huge success and is credited with a spike in the popularity of the given name Jennifer in North America.
